ABOUT CLIPPERING

Clippering is a way of removing excess body hair.  It's painless and relatively quick, which makes it attractive to many people, however the results are not long lasting.

So why do sportspeople wax some body parts and clipper others?

Two reasons.

First, most dedicated sportspeople train daily, which means they perspire a lot. After waxing, sweat can cause unsightly and uncomfortable redness that can last several days.

Secondly, sports clothing such as togs and cycle shorts are tight-fitting, and can aggravate areas that have been recently waxed.  Unfortunately, the result is far worse after shaving or using creams, so that's where Clippering comes in.

Clippering is normally performed weekly, using a trimmer with a #1 blade.  This leaves the remaining hair about 4mm long, but looking neat and uniform.  To trim the hair any shorter creates a high risk of ingrown hair similar to shaving, and basically defeats the purpose.

However, waxing still has it's place for sportspeople.  Areas such as lower legs, arms, armpits, and back are still commonly waxed, because the risk of aggravation is far less than say, the upper leg, bum, and bikini line, where tight clothes often rub.
